For National Payroll Week, HR Grapevine looked at what payroll teams have absorbed over the past year, from statutory sick pay changes to the run up to mandatory payrolling of benefits in kind.
Jenna Lightfoot, Head of Payroll Operations at HBHR, spoke about how pay errors affect trust: “The odd error is forgivable. It can happen, even in the best-run payroll operations, but employee trust depends on how you handle that error and whether it becomes a pattern. Dismissing an error or being unapproachable instantly puts that trust at risk.”
On the statutory sick pay changes, Jenna said: “I think it has settled. Edge cases come up all the time, but the knowledge of how and why is cemented now.”
